My window was not screaming until the Lane change feature went off in my car and shook the steering wheel and scared the daylights out of me. I had asked the salesman to turn this off before I left the dealership and he DID NOT. I was under the assumption he had. I had no issues until this moment and in this moment, the loudest scream started, and seemed to come from the back window directly behind the driver's seat. It is worst when the window is half way down. Opening and closing the other windows and moon roof does not effect this scream. It is not the Helmholtz Resonance.

This is a fantastic video from a guy who took a long time to figure out where the noise in a HRV was coming from but he finally figured it out and he had to think outside the box to understand it. This is where most dealership service fail as they only follow protocol. It's important to read all the comments in this video as they tell the story. Honda Corporate did send a specialist to help this man who was having trouble with his own dealership.

Although is video is specific to HRCs, most cars have a similar configuration and I feel it may be the reason I now have the screaming. The rubber boot has to be lubricated or adjusted to stop the noise.

This is the best video I can get of sound at the moment: New video by SASQUATCH SANCTUARY

There are times it gets so loud, it sounds like the siren from an ambulance is behind me.

Has anyone had to deal with this and what was the outcome?

Thank you.

Sounds like a quality issue where air intrusion is prevalent.

Dont mess with anything - go to your dealer, or another if your original selling one doesnt play ball. Get them to look at it and show them that video clip.

Why are you not having your dealer address this under warranty? Clearly you can recreate and demonstrate the issue, so go to your dealer, ask to have a service tech ride with you so you can demonstrate the issue, get their agreement on it and then have it serviced and corrected under factory warranty.

Have already done all that to no avail. [moderator: removed pejorative rant] Have spoken with Honda Corporate. They are working on possibly getting me a specialty tech to fly out but nothing has been arranged as of yet. Still up in the air. They make up protocols as they go along.

Today I spent an hour with the manager of the Subaru Service team and he was very pleasant. Subaru sits next to the Honda dealership and is owned by one owner. This guy was kind and generous and calm. He spent 5 minutes resetting the HVAC system by just touching the screen and nothing more. After that reset I did not hear any rattling in the system dash where it was before. He thinks the reset would have just put anything back into place that may have been
messed up.
I still have to listen tomorrow when I start up the car to see if this did the trick. Whatever he did, he knew what to do. So grateful.

He immediately heard the scream in my window when I put it down and he sat behind me to see if he could figure it out. When he held the door tight to him when the window screamed (air), the screaming stopped. He's not completely sure about this so I have to take the car back in next week and they are going to try several things, one of them being a complete new seal around the door and window area. He said it could actually be inside the door as well and perhaps I will need a new part in there... somewhere. It could also have something to do with the rubber boot because it happened when the Lane change (steering wheel) feature was turned on. This is the exact moment I heard the screaming window.

I'm less concerned about the window than I am the rattle so I feel much better now. Hopefully tomorrow will be rattle free as well.

Another update regarding the screeching window scenario. They had a specialist from Honda come today to experience my screaming window/air issue and he himself drives a CRV. They took my car for a drive, noted the screaming, took his car for a ride, noted the screaming and then found another CRV, took that for a ride and noted the screaming. All three cars doing the same thing. The specialist said there is no way to fix it and that mostly all CRVs have it, no matter the model and they have no intelligence on this issue to refer to, so he suggested that we just leave it alone and I would just have to keep that window closed at all times to stop the screaming.

It is now noted in the Honda data base that this is an issue and Honda cannot correct it. You may want to check your own car to see if yours actually screams too. Eventually they may come up with a fix in the future, so if you have this issue, make sure to report it to your local Honda database so when the fix is known, they will correct your car free of charge.

The second thing I learned is that the rubber boot which is on the other model car, HRV (video)....has a rubber boot as stated but the CRV does not have a RUBBER boot but more like a cloth like boot so the wind would not be coming up this boot in the same fashion, ruling out the whistle being produced by the boot. Good to know. And thrilled that the Honda service person asked the Specialist about this. Good to have this intel either way.

Still having a small amount of rattle in the HVAC behind the vents but most of that was corrected by the reset. Will venture in to that issue when I have more time to discuss it with yet another specialist.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Interesting. I can't say I've noticed the issue, and I do drive with my window open often.
Let us know if you learn more, thanks.

One persons "screaming" is probably another persons "rumble" or "rush of air", etc.

Subjective terms create subjective misunderstandings. :)

Once a window is cracked open and you are driving at speed, depending on temperature, humidity, vehicle speed, cross winds or not, etc etc.... I bet everyone hears something just a bit different.

For me, I am only interested in how the cabin interior sounds with all windows properly closed. That is the gold standard, becasue everything else is both variable and situational where cabin noise from wind is concerned.

I have already explained that this is NOT the Helmholtz Resonance. This is something entirely different but it does have to do with some sort of penetrating air/wind which is making the scream. No rumbling or rush of air. It sounds more like an ambulance siren. We wouldn't call a specialist in for the Helmholtz Resonance.

The issue seems to either the back left passenger window or the back right passenger window or both.

I also have this issue with my window. Just got my 2022 Touring yesterday and the rear driver side window had the same sound as in that video. I haven't checked all the windows for that sound yet. I was able to get it to reduce volume by adjusting the window height, but that sound is annoying. I will look into it more.

Great, I'd love to know how to get the wind from causing the screeching. If someone holds the door tight at this window the noise ceases. I've tried putting a towel there but have yet to get it to stop. For those of us who have dogs and like to hang their heads out the window, it's incredibly annoying. I actually bought this car for my dogs as it's nice and roomy but never did I think to test something like this on my initial drive test. If I had, I would not have purchased the car. Never had this issue in any other car in my life. Thanks for posting, I hope you'll be the one who can figure out the fix.
