My mechanic told me that the rear drive or u bolt is starting to need being replaced. He said the CRV 2000 is all wheel drive all the time. He also said if needed the rear drive could be disconnected and thus make the car 2 wheel drive. Is this true? If so how would that affect the mechanics of the car?

I worked at the Honda manufacturing plant in Marysville, Ohio and that's what the onsite service center did on my 1997 CRV that was a 4wd. It worked fine as a 2 wheel drive. I drove it for 3-4 years like that and never a problem. If I remember correctly they just had to pull the driveshaft.
