Damaged dash panels

When I had my stereo installed locally,they used screwdrivers to "pry" the dash apart to remove the various panels to remove the stock radio and installed a double din unit! They will not replace the panels, I priced them out at $600.00 range for panels. Is there any one or place that has a written off unit that will sell me what I need? I am in Alberta Canada.

if the damage is pretty obvious and big, you should make them pay for it!

Who'd you have it done by? What company? Take pictures, take the car back to the company, demand manager support to fix or repair. In no way should a company do that with your panels, everyone knows to wrap a screwdriver in cloth if you have to do that. If the scratches are obviously placed from the steps taken to remove the radio and replace it, make sure they repair it, report to the BBB, or any authority that deals with that. If nothing, talk to the head or big boss of the company itself and send them pictures.

Given how haphazardly they did the job, I doubt they'll give a damn about rectifying the situation. Who did the job? If it was at the Honda dealership, at least you have recourse.

Bbb

The install was done in Fort Mac by the only shop here. I have spoken to the manager with no results,I don't believe the BBB can do anything except have theire name in system if people ask BBB about them before getting work done. They have no power to make things happen. However it is an idea to talk with the BBB.

Depending on who you talk to, the BBB will warn the company that their name is going up there, unless they fix the issue. Also, some news companies will do helpful antics to get the company out of customers. Here it's called "Channel 7 On Your Side" they basicaly interview the bad doers to make them feel like criminals, and make a them lose a lot of business.

Don't businesses pay a yearly fee to become a BBB member? Don't think BBB will do anything unless you are. Correct me if I'm wrong...

BBB offers a few services, there are definitly stores on the BB that are not members of it, and have trashy "F" ratings.

Don't worry, I see what you're talking about. You can make all those scratches stand out even more by cleaning or armor-all'ing the spot where it's messed up so they're shiney, then take a picture, and the damage will really show up on photo.

that damage is caused by the panel pop tool. Heating it up carefully with a hear gun, and tediously scratching over the area with your fingernail can make it look a lot better, and get rid of that 'white" look. From now on only bring it to certified professionals with an mecp cert, and to a shop that has an insurance company backing them, like best buy.

Where I see the damage at is around the control knobs and below the shifter garnish. The damage below the shifter garnish should have never happened. There's no reason to put a tool down in that area to remove that part. These people obiously didn't know what they were doing.

Now for the damage around the control knobs, that is the common are to put a tool to release the tabs to remove the control panel. But they didn't bother to place a rag under the tool to prevent damage or try to hanwork the area to make it look better before putting the part back in.

And the shifter garnish itself is scratched up, that needs replaced. Unless you can find touch paint to closely match. But there is no touch up paint specifically for that color that's used in the CRV. To change that part, the shifter knob has to come off.

Illegal is right, these areas can be handworked to repair the damage, if one knows what they are doing. The part that would need to be replaced for the control knob area damage is far more difficult to replace than what you would want to tackle, trust me. And the damage below the shifter garnish is actually on the inpanel shell itself. So handworking these areas woould be your best bet.

I posted instructions from the helms service manual on the removal of these panels and there's no way I could of done without it. You need to place your tool in very specific spots and the panels must come off in sequence. I doubt your installers had the benefit.

tell them you are going to make a claim with your insureance company, and calling the BBB, then see what the manager says, after you ask him for The owners personal info and buisness address and what not, for the insureance company

if you have the money and time, take them to small claims court.
I dont think BBB will give you any good results at all. if they're the only shop in your area, people have no other choice - but to go to them for installs. so whether they have a good or bad rating with BBB, people dont really have a choice.

threaten the shop that you will go to the media and BBB if they dont fix it. if that dont work, you're SOL unless you do small claims court.
