By the way.. a good quality OBDII reader can actually check/validate for emissions compliance in advance of getting a state inspection.

Find a different dealer. They are just trying to get more $$$$$ out of u and do work that doesn’t need to be done.

Possible. So a second opinion from another dealer would be prudent.

It is also entirely possible that they put a diagnostic tool on the CRV as part of their normal maintenance and it detected an issue. Dealers do in fact do this on certain maintenance intervals and MM codes. In some states, Honda is liable for freely allowing vehicles to continue on the road with emissions system failures ..... just like here in California there is a law that requires all dealers (probably all licensed service shops actually) must check and insure your tires are set to proper pressure as part of any service visit.

Point being.. we do not know.. since none of us were there.

Yes, but there is no such a thing as an Emissions Service, it may be a "product" they want to sell you.. If they did in fact find a code set, that's a different case, it may need a repair. Ask. Otherwise I'd assume your car is fine, motor on. If convenient, use a different dealer next time. The servive department is a whole separate business from sales.

Maintenace "B" at a dealership includes more then just an oil change, one of which is the Exhaust (emissions) System. It is quite likely they actually run a systems check on the system.. just like they do with the battery (even though the battery test is not a Maintenance B requirement by Honda). Owners can actually run a full emissions system compliance check on their own too... using a good OBDII scanner.

B ● Replace engine oil and oil filter
● Inspect front and rear brakes
● Inspect these items:
• Tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and boots
• Suspension components
• Driveshaft boots
