I received this message (error-code P0843) after my check engine light came on and the D from the drive setting on my gear display starting blinking. Does this mean the sensor is bad or that the transmission fluid has issues?

It’s likely just the pressure switch. But it would be worth checking the integrity of the wiring before replacing it to be sure.

Need more information, like what year, transmission etc. Because if your haven't been properly changing the fluid this can also be an indicator that the transmission is now failing because of plugged filter (which can only be fixed by rebuild or replacing transmission)
