I just picked up my Touring Friday night. The fog lights would fill in nicely if I could turn them on. I live in Texas is there any way to turn on both high beams and fog lights? I plan to replace fog lights with the LED's suggested on here.

I had fog lights on 4 separate brands and they all worked the same. The fog lights work only with the low beams. It makes me suspect is due to some federal regulation. Anyway, when you are in actual fog, the glare and reflections from heavy fog makes high beams less effective than low beams.

FTW. Driving lights help to supplement headlights in non-fog conditions. Sounds like the OP wants to use the fog lights as driving lights. Two different purposes. Doesn't mean it isn't a rational idea - but that's why manufacturers did this. It's also IIRC why you can't in most vehicles have the light switch in "Auto" and use fog lights.

The projection distance of the fog lamps is short enough that they don't really accomplish anything in any situation in which the high beams are possible/useful. And, on a practical basis, they very often (if not always) feed off of the same fuse, which would blow if they were both on at the same time.

(And if you ARE in heavy fog, highbeams are downright dangerous, because they make it MORE difficult to see things in front of you.)

The fog lights on the CR-V work in the Auto mode, so no problem there. I agree with the OP that it would be nice to let them do their job of filling in the front area very near to the car while the high beams were on, but alas, for some reason, this is not allowed.

Again, the reason is safety. They are advertised as fog lights - not driving lights. Honda (and other manufacturers) are trying to promote safety for people who don't understand that high beams actually reduce visibility in heavy fog. Therefore, for when the fog lights are intended to be used (they are not intended to "fill in"), Honda is trying to influence people to NOT use high beams. I understand that there are people who would like to use the lights as driving lights (even though the beam pattern is very different than that of driving lights). Just pointing out the "some reason" - which does have deliberate logic behind it. It's another example of "dumbing down" products in order to protect the general public, which may not understand.

From what I've read so far, there is no national rule/law governing fog lights and their usage. A couple of states have laws regulating them, but most do not. The states with these laws ,for the most part, are generally poorly written and difficult to interpret. For example, in one paragraph of the Oklahoma law it states that fog lights can only be used when visibility is down to half-a-mile or less, but then goes on to say that they can be used whenever the headlights are on if they are equipped with a switch that allows this type of operation.

I have done this mod with my '15 Silverado, and have been looking into doing this to my wife's CR-V. Been looking for the vehicle's Build Control Module and a breakdown as to which wires do what. As soon as I find this breakdown, I can help you all do this mod.

It's simply running a 1N4004 Diode "jumper" from the high beams to the fog/driving lights. For me, I want to set all forward facing white lights on with the high beams, FULL POWER (eyebrows)!!!! The diodes on my Silverado are inserted on my BCM plugs, like below. Still haven't found a "BCM" for the CR-V.
