Could just be a connection that is not making good contact.(maybe at the connector next to the fuel pump- you could try disconnecting that connector and reconnecting it several times to burnish the contacts).
Sometimes the sending unit on the fuel pump gets coated in fuel additives. Some folks have had luck by adding Chevron Techron Concentrated Plus fuel additive to a couple of tanks of gas. Supposedly a solvent in that helps dissolve that coating.
Could be worth a try esp if you see some Techron on sale.
