I have just joined your forum.
My local Honda dealer, put me through to servicing,
My vehicle is a 2005 CRV-EXC CTDI, (114,000 miles) the service engineer, suggested it sounds like one the belts, possibly linked to the alternator. He recommended a replacement belt.

Any thoughts, before I go to the garage for belt change or tensioning.

WELCOME!

100K IS a good, typical interval to change serpentine belts (if that is what your diesel has).

You can troubleshoot it easily enough by spraying clean water on the belts while the noise is present. If the noise goes away you have a dry belt...if it doesn't you probably have a worn idler or tensioner.
