My new CRV hasn't come in yet but I use the wired version with my Ridgeline and it works with both. My CRV shows both wireless Android auto and Apple car play. I can say the interface is the smart phone connection. Try connecting to that and see what happens

Hopefully someone comes along that already has their car. If not I will look you up next week when I have my car. I have a droid so this is something I am going to have to do.

It should have both at that trim level. Here is an excerpt from a 2023 CR-V EX-L review.

For wireless Android Auto to work, you need a phone with 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, Android 11.0 or later, and an active data plan.

Ok bro, let wait until you have it
Just picked up my car. I connected my phone, it then prompted me to enable Android Auto. If your car isn't automatically connecting you need to speak to your dealer and figure out why.

Android Auto needs to go through some user rights accepting process that happens over the cable when running for the first time, without it the wireless part does not engage.

Maybe it is something different with the 2023. I have wireless on my Ridgeline via a dongle, with that everything had to be set up with a wire before it worked. Yesterday I first connected my phone with bluetooth, it then prompted me to make the smart phone connection, which is what makes it wireless. Then it prompted me to enable Android Auto because at that point the connection was made. Today we are going to connect my husband's iPhone so we will see if that process is any different.

Any experience with having Android Auto launch automatically whenever you start your car? I’m looking for a seamless experience so it acts like built-in navigation on the 2023 EX-L.
That is what mine does. I get it, the computer goes through it's start up, android launches, starts where it left off which is my maps. About my only complaint is that talk button doesn't want to work with android auto so I have to hit the microphone on the screen to interact.

Oh, sorry, wireless is available in the EX-L? Well regardless I had wired on my HRV and if I plugged my phone in when I started up it did the same thing.
