How do I remove the sliding tray in the center console? 2022 hybrid

I picked up my new 2022 hybrid yesterday and love it... except for the console storage. HATE that part.

Is there anything that will turn that gaping hole under the armrest/cover into some kind of actually useable space? Is there some kind of 4 walled insert that can go in there maybe?

Open to any suggestions!

thanks!

EDIT to add: I bought some stuff to help me organize it in a way that better suits my needs, but I need to take the sliding trays out completely. I can slide them back and flip them up, but I can't figure out how to take them OUT. If anyone knows how, I'd appreciate the help!

I lost interest.... ;)

Taking it apart just wasn't worth it.

It's still a black hole of space that has completely missed the point of functionality. I'll definitely be watching for someone to design a way to reconfigure it to something useable. 🤷‍♀️
The trick here is to find a tray insert that will meet your wants and needs. It likely will not be one offered for CRVs. More along the lines of going to a shop that specializes in a wide range of plastic storage containers or compartments, with measurements of your arm rest cubby in hand, and pick out what makes sense for you. And probably some thin foam sheeting that you can cut into shapes needed to properly fix everything in place without any rattling around due to vehicle in motion.

Honestly, if it was me, I would design the perfect little storage tray for my needs, and then go get some PVC plastic sheetpanels and custom cut and then glue and foam pad the exterior for a custom tray and just pop it right in. The nice thing being, this does not take highly developed crafting skills, and can be changed or replaced over time by simply making a new one when new needs arise.

I was able to remove both trays by simply lifting up on one side, doesn't matter what side. There are springs in there will go in when you pull up on one side. I jus did this on my 2022 hybrid touring.
I bought some organization things that might help me make it useable. I'd like to remove the sliding trays completely. Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks!

We have 2 HRVs in the family. it's what my kids drive. And yeah... it's definitely worse from a storage standpoint! Good luck making it work!
Have you figured out how to remove this? I bought an organizer through Amazon, but I am in the same situation as you. Let me know if you found a way.

I replied to someone above on this. You simply life them out, There are spring loaded tabs on each side and you just lift up on either side. very easy to do.

Oh, how I so wish it’d be the case!!!! Do you think you can show me what you are talking about??? I so hope mine would work like yours!!! I brought my car to the dealer today trying to see if they could show me. No luck. In fact, I was told that I’d have to remove entire console to remove this tray. I wasn’t going to take a chance. Honestly, would you be able to show me the image? I’d be happy to upload mine. This really should not have to be this difficult, I think. Thank you for responding to my post.

I have a hybrid touring and all you do is pull up on either side of one of the trays and they pop out. Unless they are different on the other trim levels, this is all you do. It’s very simple and easy. Mine are getting dirty and I have to clean them so I’m taking them out this week.

That’s it exactly. It just pulls right out. There are about two spring loaded tabs on each side of the tray that holds it place.

Really!?!?! Then there is hope then!!! While I took this image from the internet, mine looks exactly the same. Would you mind please showing me via FaceTime or video chat? Id be happy to set it up.
By the way, thank you so much for your quick response!

It can’t be any easier than this. Simply pull up on either side of the tray and it will come out. You’ll see those tabs that hold it in it’s track once it’s removed. It’s really simple to take out.
Okay, I’m going to give it another try. I’m going in! Thank you!

Okay, I really tried but I’m totally clueless. I put some pictures of mine. Do you see what you are talking about in these pictures???

You know you can remove the sliding tray, right? Then you just have a big open space. This is for a 2017 - you don't have USB ports down there but the sliding tray is the same.
I have the 2022 Hybrid. Your comment helped me quite a bit! Sure enough... I slid the front tray all the way back and then lifted it up and now I have one big open hole big enough to put my purse. Thank you!
