What you need: A mobile phone with data programm able to create wifi spot.

1)Reset Honda connect android system to factory defaults settings

2)Using browser go to cmdroid.com and download Honda Permission

3)Modify security to accept third party downloads

4) Create the following process policy on honda permission

com.google.android.apps.maps
Third party
Navi
SoundInterrupt
SoundInterruptMute
LastMode
5)Delete permission from downloads. Download google maps 8.4 from cmdroid.com
6) Install google maps (always apk , always with the name HondaAppCenter_A1.apk.

A few tips

You should always do a factory reset before applying the above procedure.

Note that the procedure works with firmware RC3,RC4,RC5, RC6, RC6A1.

RC7 and above locks this backdoor access

IF you firmware is OF.095 (RC7) and above then you should await for another backdoor access.

Discussion Starter sounds to me like WiFi and Android Auto are involved (note "go to cmdroid.com"). Alas, my 2016 CR-V (Touring) doesn't have WiFi or AA--and no way to add them, thanks so much to American Honda Motors--so I cannot test the process. FYI, my dealer's service tech claims such attemps to add 3rd party software would brick my Infotainment unit. So... anyone have a clue how to get Google Maps to play on a pre-AA, pre-WiFi 2016 CR-V (Touring)?
Even with an Android-compatable HDMI converter/cable, I cannot display my 2017 Android Samsung Galaxy J700P.03's Google Maps on the big screen, nor music either. Maybe a smartphone with MirrorLink capacity?

Incredibly looking for a long time what to do with gps in my crv I didn't expect to find a solution from a Greek (or at least I had to wait)
