Was going over the door locking and unlocking options in the 2017 ex-l.

It seems that the passenger door can be opened from the inside when locked...and none of the electronic options seem to stop that. Can this be changed? possibly with a mechanical switch (like the old child-proof rear door lock switche)? or is it just the way cars are now? I seem to remember the same behavior in other modern cars... but we've got a situation where we need to be able to protect someone from harming themselves.

I think this is the way cars are now. You could just pull the door panel and disconnect the handle? You are already going to have to pull the door panel to disconnect the lock lever and lock switch anyway...

Alternatively, put that person in the back seat and use the child safety lock. It's not like our cars lack rear seat room.

It's a safety feature in the event of an accident you can get the passenger door open in case the driver's door is stuck. Probably a liability issue for Honda too.
