LED Running Lights Burned Out on 2015 CRV EX-L

Has anyone lost their LED running lights? I have to replace the entire headlamp assembly because the LED bulbs cannot be replaced.

Hi, AFAIK you DO NOT have to replace the entire fog assembly. I just swapped ALL my 2015 CR-V bulbs with LED bulbs. (That's a huge number of bulbs, which you don't realize until actually replacing them. There's the interior lights, rear/front side markers, brake lights, backup lights, tail lights, etc., etc.)

Did the dealership perhaps tell you that? For sure, that provides the biggest profits for whoever said that. The truth is, bulbs throughout the entire 2015 CR-V are mostly user replaceable (that's you), with bulbs you buy on Amazon or eBay.

Steps:

- Buy the bulbs you intend on replacing. E.g., interior LED bulb kit, about 10 bulbs, all the same, is about $7. Strobe brake lights, legal in California, were about $20 for the pair. Side marker lights, about $6. Yeah, LED bulbs are cheap, even from reputable sellers. I use ALLALighting.

- Buy on Amazon or eBay a light and/or dash tools kit. This will have levers, hooks, and other tools needed to work with the plastic housings, so you don't scratch anything. About $5. https://tinyurl.com/DashToolKit

- Watch relevant YouTube videos on the "how to" for the replacement or swap (e.g., halogen to LED, incandescent to LED). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2TXdmeLbl8

Bonus Info: The headlights are very easy to replace, because that's a safety issue. Can't have drivers unable to replace their headlights when on the road.

Same goes for the tail lights, except replacing those bulbs requires a little more work, pulling off the red lens, that requires your GENTLY pulling rearward the tail light assembly so you don't snap or break a small retaining clips that keeps the red lens flush with the rear quarter panel. If it does break the clip can be replaced.

Once you remove the tail light lens, access to all the bulbs is very easy.

Of all the lights, the fog lights are the most challenging bulbs to replace. (As you can see in the video.) But with patience you can do it yourself.

I for sure would NOT take your CR-V to a dealer, one who might tell you the entire assembly/housing is what's replaced when a bulb goes out. IMO that would be a FRAUDULENT representation.

I think he is talking about the many little DRLs that goes around the headlights. I can see where they are probably not individually replaceable.

Geez, that really sucks if you have to replace the entire assembly because the DRL burned out. I hope there is a different solution.

Not likely that ALL of them would stop operating all at once. They may be grouped into a circuit, so look it up and see where the power comes from. Use a voltmeter at the headlamp plug or whatever fuse controls the circuit.

This is NOT a common issue.

Do you have a list of what you bought for LED replacements? I've been looking online, but getting a few conflicting sizes.

You are correct, osbornk. It's the little DRLs around the headlight. Two Honda dealers confirmed that they are not replaceable. Cheaper for Honda to make and a great money grab. Almost makes me want to tell Honda to shove it for my next car.

While it is disappointing these cannot be changed out, unless you live in Canada, they are not legally required. I don't see this as a life changing event.

not all the bulbs......that's understood. I'm talking about the LED daytime running lights that run around the headlights. Dealer told me they are NOT replaceable but are part of the entire headlight assembly which is 1 piece.

This forum won't let me post, but I'll try one more time. This is a response to someone who PMd me about where to get the LED bulbs I mentioned. The system said his box was too full so it rejected my message to him. LOL. This appears a waste of time. But here's one more try:

AFAIK there's no one site that lists all the bulbs a particular model needs, nor is anyone offering packages or kits that offer all the bulbs for your year and model. What I ended up doing is buying the LED bulbs individually from one or two favored eBay sellers, who sell only good quality bulbs.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO MAKE SURE EACH BULB(S) YOU PURCHASE ARE LISTED FOR YOUR EXACT CAR. And I only go by what the seller says in the listing. I do NOT go by what eBay tells me.

Here's a person I use, Alla Lighting. I simply go to his listings, enter what I'm looking for AND include in my search the year and model of the car. E.g. "Honda CR-V 2015 LED backup light" or "2015 Honda CR-V LED side marker lights" or "2015 Honda CR-V interior LED lighting kit"

Bonus Tip: Always enter "LED" so you are not buying old style bulbs by accident. And always be sure that you have not been mistakenly steered to a different seller or different model car.

Bonus Tip: Bulbs also sold by the same sellers on Amazon.

Bonus Tip: Biggest difficulty is getting the correct headlight bulbs. Those are also the most expensive.

Bonus Tip: If you use AllaLighting he often has a "Best Offer" option on his listings. I have saved a lot of money using that. E.g., Strobe brake lights (legal in California, by the way) listed at $25 for two. Offered $15 for the pair, he accepted. E.g., $20 for a pair of bulbs, offered $14 which he accepted. The savings add up.
