Hi Folks,

I've been searching this forum for 4 days and have found every which way to get the OEM Backup camera to work with an aftermarket stereo on almost all models of CRV's EXCEPT for 2012 with Navigation. I've even found the wiring diagrams for this model yet those diagrams do not show which wires are for the backup camera. I'm pulling my hair out because I just want to splice the wires and make my own harness. All I need is the reverse wire, power for camera and the 2 data cables. I have the 2012 EL-X with Nav. I've got everything to work with my iLX-107 Alpine.

I want to possibly divert the NAV wires for the backup camera to the i-MID that should already be able to show the camera like in the non-Nav models. I've seen youtube videos of people doing it the opposite way. Taking the i-MID backup camera wires and splicing them to go to the aftermarket stereo. Thus having 2 backup monitors.

So if anyone out there knows how I can find the wires for the backup camera that would be awesome.

In your shoes I would call Crutchfield and talk to their tech guys. They can not only answer your questions, they might be able to make/sell you a custom harness to allow you to plug & play the setup. Or you could try calling the guys at Five Star Car Stereo and see if they are willing to help, as they do this stuff daily. I know from watching a lot of their videos that they have dived deep into this issue. It's all worth a try, eh? Let us know how it turns out.

Thx Larry, I bought the gear from Crutchfield and on their website for the Alpine deck it says in bold print that I would be able to keep the OEM camera but when I call them they have no help. I think they are confusing the I-mid backup camera with the NAV. The whole reason I bought through them was because of the work they do to have everything come out right for you. They told me there is no harness. I'll try Five Car stereo. Thx.

Larry you're a genius. I googled Five Star Car stereo crv and got the exact video where the guys find those pins! Awesome! Here is what I got from the video.

On the 7 pin connector (not sure what that is until I go look) the top pins are in this order:

black, grey, red, white, (Gap) Green, Yellow (I'll update with pics)

The configuration is:

Rca Video signal

Black= Signal -
Red=Signal +

Power:
Yellow= Power +
Green= Power -

Yes! Success. I really think this should be a sticky... he hem (mods) JK. I could repost it with a better title and description. So I got it figured out with everything hooked up and working.

Here are the parts needed to get your CRV 2012 oem backup camera working with any Head unit that has RCA input for camera.

*I have no kickback from any of the links I'm sharing!

1. Metra 70-1730 Receiver Wiring Harness $14.99 (I used the SUB RCA adapter that comes with it for my Video RCA)

2. PAC VOLT-39 Adjustable Voltage Adapter (Set to 6volts on the selector) $14.37

3. RCA cable - mono to cut and solder to Video out of OEM harness. *I used the Sub adaptor that came with the Metra harness. DO NOT USE IT IF YOU PLAN ON KEEPING THE OEM SUB OF YOUR VEHICLE. Just find a cheap RCA to splice.

Great work here! Do you know if this would work in a 2008 CRV? I'm having issues with my factory nav and was thinking up upgrading to an aftermarket headunit.
