I own a 2011 CR-V, and I want to purchase a small fishing boat & trailer in the near future. I have not ever attached a hitch to a vehicle.
I would appreciate some advice and recommendations for a good hitch for my vehicle as I have no idea where to start.
Thank you!

May I suggest:

etrailer.com should have the plug-n-play trailer light harness as well.

What type of boat? Flat bottom Jon boat maybe?

I have one of these HF trailers (no boat).......handy as a pocket on a shirt.

I agree with a nice frame hitch from etrailor. I have bought 5 from them over the years and just installed one on my '09 EXL. The hitch went on in about 20 minutes and the wiring harness in about 10. The hardest part is cleaning out the threaded holes in the frame. Spray them with penetrate a couple days before install and have a good brush to ream out the threads. I installed a 2" because it is really heavy duty and attaches in 5 places. You can also buy the 1 1/4" , but it is pretty light duty.

I bought a tap to clear out the threads--the tap and a little bit of oil will have 'em clean in a jiffy.

I got the Curt 13555 from eTrailer. Only thing is, it was already rusting after one year. They tried handing me some BS about "road rash" or whatever, from all the debris being kicked up onto it. And I replied back that the entire car has seen nine years of the road and isn't rusting as much. Their powder coating process sucks. I regret buying the Curt (the trailer hitch looks ghetto after only two years), but there really are not many options unfortunately.

Hitches get rusty......they're made of high carbon steel and constantly exposed to the worst of elements. I'd bet 10-15 minutes with a wire brush and a rust preventing spray paint would have it looking almost new. Works on the Draw-Tite hitch on our RAV4. I'll have to get down on my hands/knees/back and remove that fiber panel to inspect the Curt hitch.......because the crossbar is hidden.....does not stick out like a sore thumb.

After installing the hitch and before replacing that fiber panel on the V, I sprayed some of this stuff on the hitch, especially at the bolts.(y)

chain wax

This stuff is similar to Cosmoline.......forms a protective coating.

I am tempted to clean up the rust and put a coating of plasti-dip on it. The entire car is exposed to the elements, especially the undercarriage, getting blasted by way more water, crud, stones and salt than this hitch will ever see, so I'm not buying Curt's excuse. Parts of the Curt hitch that are not even fully exposed are rusting. Garbage. Total garbage.

Curt also has some sort of arrangement with Amazon, since I've tried posting a constructive negative review several times and it is rejected each time. (I've done negative reviews many times with no issues, even for items I've purchased elsewhere.)

Some aftermarket hitches might hang lower, but it depends on the individual car model of course. Best bet is to visit etrailer.com as mentioned and see what they have to offer. I think they have photos of the hitches installed, plus, I think there is probably a way to see if they have installation instructions posted online. (Or the hitch manufacturer sites may have the directions posted also.) That should tell you if any cutting is needed. I did not have to cut anything on my '09.

You will have to get on your hands and knees to see where you trimmed that sound deadening material. With regard to the facia, just make 2 parallel cuts and push/fold the plastic piece up behind the bumper facia. The Curt hitch crossbar is completely hidden.
