My other vehicle has NO factory spare tire either. For it, I bought a black steel rim and use factory size tire (rubber). re: NOT a donut. For local drive abouts, the spare tire remains in our garage. If we need it, my wife can deliver it or perhaps my neighbour can deliver it as well. For "long haul" trips, we put the spare tire in our vehicle's rear cargo area. If we need it, we have it. And we also have CAA yearly service as well. This works for us.... BTW: I've been driving for 35+ years and only had 2 flats. One local and other flat 1 mile from a Canadian Tire store. Thus, risk of a flat is low....
