I recently had the factory head unit in my 2008 Honda CR-V EX replaced with a Pioneer AVIC 5200NEX unit that I purchased from Crutchfield. I was disappointed to learn that the AM/FM reception is not as good as what i previously had with the factory unit. (Fyi, the Pioneer is not an HD radio.)

Can you suggest some options for things I can do to improve reception? Thanks in advance.

As long as you hooked up your radio antenna to the rear of the new stereo and its reception is no good, your new head unit might be defective. I'd hit up Crutchfield and see what they say about it.

Head unit seems to be ok. Do you have any thought on antenna amplifier, or a new antenna? I've heard of people who have issues with the factory windshield-antenna .

What brand antenna adapter was used?

I had a Scosche HAAB adapter that caused poor FM reception. I changed it to the Metra 40-HD10 and haven't had an issue since.

I experienced this exact same problem, I have an AVIC-5000NEX installed in my 07 CR-V EX, and my FM radio reception became significantly worse. I got the Crux SWRHN-62B wiring interface that allowed me to interface with the factory harness and retained all steering wheel controls.

I also upgraded the HU in my 2008. The antenna adapter I used is a Metra 40-HD10. The instructions stress the blue wire on the adapter must be connected to the receiver's power antenna wire, typically a blue or blue/white wire.

Looks like you need an adaptor.
