It's gotten cold enough here that I've finally had to put air in my tires for the first time. That + the fact I'm going to be taking a road trip out west come April got me thinking about possibly getting a portable tire inflator. If anyone has one/has experience with them, I'd welcome your recommendations. Thanks!

I'm using this one, works for my modest needs but I'm not saying it's the best one.

I wanted one that didn't have to be connected to the car's power, just more convenient.

All our Hondas have a VIAIR 450P in the back. They are silent and quick to use.
Our Ridgelines also have a 50ft heavy duty hose with quick connect adapters (from Home Depot) as the small coiled hose is delicate.

We also have this inside the tool bag - Longacre Oil Filled - very accurate !

Depends on how much you want to invest and what features you would like.

Since the average vehicle owner only needs one for infrequent use, I would suggest a battery powered hand held one similar to what beww shared in his link. You really do not need one of the caliber used by motor vehicle service shops.

The important point though is when buying, try to purchase based on solid customer reviews, and pick known reputable name brands if you can. Example: if using Amazon as the merchant sourcing, be sure that the composite of 3, 4, 5 star reviews from customers averages 85% (ie: very few 1 and 2 star reviews), that there are plenty of reviews (ie: not a low volume no name brand or a brand new product listing), and the shipment is either sold by Amazon the company, or fulfilled by Amazon shipping services (as this insures fast prompt service for any issues with a new product). It is also prudent to read through the 3 star reviews as they most often give you the most objective critical review comments. The 1 and 2 star reviews are most often buyers who simply purchased the wrong thing for their needs, or did not understand how to operate the product, or the product received was simply defective (Amazon will exchange or refund for free).

I just grabbed one at AutoZone, knowing there would be no problem returning it if it didn't meet my needs, but it does.

Ryobi P737D uses ONE + Lithium batteries
Very easy to use. I also got a Good gauge from Griots to check with as most inflator gauges are WAY off

I would like an ac and car powered one. Does this exist.
The one I pack in my CRV runs on the 12v accessory outlet, and I purchased a 120v-2-12v with accessory port on it for when I am using it at home.

In other words, if you find one you like that does not have an AC power connection, it is very easy to obtain a 120v-2-12v accessory power supply. But really, now days I would say go with a battery powered one, which can be charged in a wall outlet.

I use this Ryobi inflator because I have already have batteries from being in their power tool ecosystem. One feature I like is that you can set the pressure you want and it will stop inflating when it reaches it. It goes on sale around $40 at home depot periodically for the tool only.

I use a VIAIR 88P constantly. It's used at home on my yard tractor and attachments, on my wheeling truck with 33inch tires to air them up from 15psi to 35 psi, only stopping to move from one tire to another. Typically under $90, the key to its success imho is the way it screws on to the valve stem. pressure gage seems pretty accurate to.

I got this one from Home Depot mostly for jump starting our vehicles if needed in the winter. I’ve used it quite a bit for airing up tires for us and others. It has a screw tip which makes a airtight connection to the tire. Sits in the back of our CRV all year. Charging it every few months to top it off. Hasn’t ever let us down.

How do you inflate a tire with this? The product in the link you supplied does not have a compressor.

I apologize for that. I mistakenly linked the wrong item. Here is the correct model with air compressor built in. I believe I got mine for $50 or less on sale at Home Depot.

Im looking for a tire inflator too. Im keeping a eye on whats out there. There is the usual 12V generic china made ones that seem to have mixed reviews. The consensus is they stop working after a year or so.

This one has caught my eye. Its AC and DC. That might be helpful as I could also get a adapter and use to inflate my paddle board in the summer.
