Power steering whine and stiffness

290 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Black Pearl UK
Hey guys. So I’m having what seems to be a common problem with the power steering where it’s super whiny and the other day it felt kind of stiff. Bubbles in the reservoir, all that ugly stuff. No leaks, but I’m wondering if it is the O rings. I replaced the black one and it didn’t do anything. I’m not sure where the red one goes. Anyone got a good lead on how to change these two? The last time I did it, it didn’t even HAVE the black o ring. I’m thinking the person who changed my power steering pump last messed up and didn’t put the o rings, so it’s possible it’s missing the red one.

Definitely a bad red o-ring, on the reservoir hose to the pump. But, I would replace both, to be sure you got it good. Diagrams below show where each o-ring goes.

Another thought, what fluid did you use? I don't think power steering is an extremely complicated system, but some people prefer using only OEM.
I found it was the top hose that cured the noise, along with fresh fluid
