Preventitive Mods on a RD1 (99-01)

Hi,
First of all I'd like to say I'm new to the forum and I'm glad to now be a part of it.
So, I'm looking into a sort of tank RD1 daily. I currently have a rustbucket 97 with 298k miles and even in this condition I absolutely love it. So I'm saving up to do a complete build for a daily tank and was wondering if there are any preventitive mods I should do to avoid certain issues or improve reliability/daily drivability. Any and all suggestions are appreciated :)

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you aboard! wow 298 miles. From what you are describing you are good with maintenace. The B20 series engine that you have to maintain. A good example is the valve lash be sure you adjust it more frequently as these engines the exhaust valves dig into the cylinder head when the engine runs too quiet its a sure sign that the valves are too tight. Timing belt , tensioner & water pump replace it on the proper interval. As usual the other regular maintenance ATF be sure you use specifically for Honda as these Honda uses lower viscosity than those regular ATF, Power Steering Fluid be sure you only use Honda PSF as their formulation is close to Hydraulic fluid , Rear Diff fluid be sure you only use Dual Pump Fluid. Brake fluid flush or replacement. Coolant I would suggest to stick to Honda Coolant. Good luck on your ride!
Rear Diff fluid be sure you only use Dual Pump Fluid.
I second the rear diff fluid. Honda Dual Pump Fluid II is the only thing to use.
So I'm saving up to do a complete build for a daily tank ...
What do you mean by "tank"? Larger tires/wheels? Lift kit? Bull bars on the front? Cement-filled doors and gun turrets out the front? (In other words, Detroit-ready transportation...where you need the protection! ?) Keep in mind the first gen CR-V is not all that sturdy of a vehicle--most mods will be cosmetic at best. It will never be offroad capable beyond mild offroading (with no rocks and only mild inclines)--the engine is too weak, although it does have good ground clearance. To me, "tank" means something tough and impenetrable, something you look at that immediately says to other drivers, "Don't touch me!" ? (Although my rusted out '97 does the same, but in a much more pathetic way.)

I almost wish I could have done a mild off-road build on my '97, but it has been way too rusty to work on for quite a few years. Not just the body, but all the fasteners have rust-welded themselves together, meaning that any recent repair job has resulted in broken bolts and stripped out nuts. But with a lift kit and bigger tires, and some of the bars and racks that were available back in the day, it definitely was a cool look. Arguably the first generation is still one of the best-looking CR-V designs.

By "tank" I mean pretty much just mean durable, able to take the abuse of midwestern winters and reliability improved by fixing design oversights & such. The only performance mod I'm considering is maybe a B16/B18 VTEC head, just to get a smidge more power and whatever few auto trans improvements I can make so it can take the added power without compromising reliability. But even then if it's not financially feasible or unreliable I can live with the stock ~145. The main goal is it being able to last me a good long while and not give me any problems aside from maintenance and brakes/suspension wearing out, etc. Not rusting out is also a big one, I know for a fact I'm going to be covering the rear quarters with POR-15 or something similar ?
