The previous posts about conditions for the autolock seem accurate. My most frequent issue is the tailgate: you have to be quite close to it while it closes or the autolock won't engage and then you get the series of beeps.
It seems to me that if it is smart enough to warn you (with a set of beeps) that you are walking away without locking, it should be smart enough to auto-lock.
Most annoying.
