It depends on were you go to get your CR-V painted. Maaco is probably the cheapest but they have a incredibly poor quality. If you take it to a body shop and get it done right you may spend around $3,000.00

you can paint your car anytime you wish, just depends on whether you want it to come out nice or not and what you budget is.

if it's just a daily beater car, just go buy some canned spray paint. :D
friend of mine did just that to this daily driver that he bought. he bought dozens and dozens of canned spray paint and painted the car. cost him less than C$300 to paint the car and i have to say that it's not bad at all for a DIY. :D

a new decent paint job changing color is going to run between 2500-3000, if you dont car what it looks like. get a gun and air compressor, some duplicolor premix from autozone, rent a spray booth and have fun

But it all comes down to:

a). Do you care about the quality (you get what you pay for)
b). Do you have any paint/body experience (It isn't super hard, but It takes practice to get good at it)

if you dont care, you can use spray paint.
If you have some experience or dont mind the learning mistakes, you can get the gun and a booth and DIY.
If you want a good job, good quality and a warranty, you bite the bullet and pay for a pro job.

Or there is always the option of selling yours and buying the color you want.
