hi yall.
im a. New. crv owner and unfortunatly brought. one with what I've been told is a dying rear diff (knocks. on Full lock and shakes between 40-60 mph).
I've been told I need a new diff can anyone reccomend somewhere tog get one that's not going to cripple us financially..
ours is a 2008 diesel tdci.

Do you know if or when the rear diff has had its fluid changed? Try doing that a couple of times ONLY with Honda DualPump II fluid before looking for at getting another one.

Change the rear diff fluid with Honda fluid (it has special characteristics). A Honda repair specialist would know to use the special DPII fluid. Takes ~ 1.5 qts per change (easy to DIY)



The shaking at 40 - 60 MPH could be something else. Check tires first (rotate F>R to see if it changes).

Could be a binding u-joint in the driveshaft too, or a binding brake caliper (test by feeling left vs right front wheels...HOT = binding caliper).

apologies for (very) late reply. cheers for suggestions.
have had all 4 wheels balanced and tracked.
Will try changing the diff oil this week a how. could. I. check the Driveshaft uj's. would. it. be a case of demounting it and manually checking?.

To start with you can just hold the drive shaft in your hand and wriggle it while observing for slack or movement. If it's worn and loose you will notice.
