Recalls

You can see if a recall applies to you by entering your VIN at http://owners.honda.com/service-maintenance/recalls or https://www.honda.ca/recalls

Information below is for U.S. recalls

17-027 (5/18/2017) Safety Recall: 2017 CR-V Certification Label
Affects CR-V Manufactured between April 3-11, 2017

BACKGROUND
On certain 2017 CR-V vehicles built between April 3rd thru April 11th 2017, the ink on the certification label may rub off
when wiping the label with alcohol, gasoline, kerosene, engine oil, window cleaner, or wax. If the label information can
be wiped away, the operator may not be able to refer to the information, possibly resulting in the vehicle being
overloaded, which can increase the risk of a crash.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the certification label.

17-062 (12/8/17) Safety Recall: 2017 CR-V Rear Fuel Feed Pipe Leaks
Affects 2017 CR-V 1.5L and 2.4L

BACKGROUND
Some fuel feed pipes were not manufactured to specification. The connector between the fuel feed pipe and the fuel line may come loose when the fuel line is pressurized. If the fuel line comes loose, it may result in leaking fuel, which, in the presence of an ignition source, may increase the risk of a fire. A loose fuel line may also cut off fuel to the engine and cause it to stall, which may increase the risk of a crash.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the fuel feed pipe using two new retainers.

18-103 (9/28/18) Safety Recall: 2017-18 CR-V: Steering Gearbox
Affects 2017-2018
NOTE THIS IS RARE - ONLY AFFECTS 29 CR-V'S TOTAL!

BACKGROUND
Due to incorrect production of the steering gearbox torque sensor, the torque sensor magnet may shift from its normal position inside the gearbox. A shifted sensor magnet may cause the steering to move left or right unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the steering gearbox. Then, do a four-wheel alignment, followed by the steering angle neutral position learning procedure.

5J6RW2H..HL000234 thru 5J6RW2H..HL031144
2HKRW2H..HH600014 thru 2HKRW2H..HH630033
2017 CR-V 2.4, 2WD
5J6RW5H..HL000021 thru 5J6RW5H..HL003088

2HKRW6H..HH200008 thru 2HKRW6H..HH206335

SYMPTOM
The vehicle does not start due to a low battery. The vehicle may have an intermittent 350mA current draw after the
vehicle is shut off.
NOTE:
  • A dead battery can be normal depending on the battery condition or age. This software update will have no effect
    on these conditions.
  • A jump-start should only be used to get the vehicle to a service station or dealer. It cannot be used to fully charge
    the battery.
  • There are many other possible causes for a vehicle needing multiple jump starts, such as a faulty alternator, a faulty
or sulfated battery, or loose battery cables.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
The VSA software logic may not allow the VSA modulator-control unit to shut down correctly and go into sleep mode
after the vehicle is shut off. This can happen if the electronic parking brake (EPB) is applied within 3 to 4 seconds of the
vehicle being shut off or if the EPB switch is held for a 3 to 4 second duration when the vehicle is off.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the VSA modulator-control unit, do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization (ALL SENSOR), set the tire
pressures to the driver’s door jamb label cold inflation values, and do the TPMS calibration procedure.

17-045 (10/12/17) Front Upper Seat Back Bolster Deformed

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2017

BACKGROUND
The seat pad folds under the frame, causing the seat cover material to collapse. NOTE: This bulletin should only be completed when there is a customer complaint.

PROBABLE CAUSE
When a driver or front passenger enters the vehicle and rubs against the bolster, the seat foam folds and gets caught
inside the seat frame.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
  • Install the new seat side airbag holder to the upper seat back frame.
  • Inspect the seat foam and see if it is repairable (foam returns to the original shape), if it is not repairable, replace it.

SYMPTOM
A rattle can be heard from the center of the instrument panel when the engine speed is between 700 and 1500 rpm.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
Possible gap from the heater box clamp to the heater core pipe.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Add a plastic heater clamp to the heater core hoses in the engine compartment

I don't find mention of a recall like this 18-103 on either nhtsa.gov or hondanews.com. I also tested a smattering of '17 VINs on recalls.honda.com and found no recalls listed. I also Googled "honda cr-v steering gearbox recall" for both Web and News and didn't find this.

Well it just came out a week ago so perhaps it takes time for it to propagate. Also it may only affect certain VINs:

Failure to repair a vehicle subject to a recall or campaign may subject your dealership to claims or lawsuits from the

So if we fall into one of these recalls, do we wait for Honda to send out a recall notice to us, or do we call to bring it in? I know it may sound like a dumb question, but this is my first Honda. Ford seemed to be pretty good about sending recall notices when I was driving my various Ford vehicles over the years.

I would wait until Honda notifies you or you verify it via the owner site. Or if you're at your dealer and ask them. Because usually with recalls it takes months for the manufacturer to get parts to all the dealers, have the dealers schedule for it, etc.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000

Information:
Potential Number of Units Affected 54

Summary

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.

Remedy

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 5, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Reset the maintenance minder light, replace only the engine oil, and the A/C control unit. Clear any DTC's and update the PGM-FI and TCU software with the latest version. Reset the throttle position learned values and do the PCM idle learn procedure.

How is it that they only replace the oil and not the filter? They wanted $75.00 to use Mobil 1 and add Filter! After using Mobil 1 for Three oil changes why would I allow them to use regular oil? Why after 7k of driving would I not want the filter changed as well?
