Replaced Cat. Cleared codes. P1157 Persists

Tire Wheel Vehicle Automotive tire Synthetic rubber

Went to go to work this morning, started the car and it made an awful racket… almost instantly I knew what would be missing.
According to the local Facebook page mine was was one about 10 that were taken last night.
Insurance have said it’s a total loss because of the age of the car, so that’s out the window.
Looking at this: Catalytic Converter + Middle Exhaust + Oxygen Sensors + Gaskets For CR-V 04-07 | eBay

Anyone have experience of what does and doesn’t work - I know our cars scan be very picky when it comes to senders…

Sorry to hear your bad news there is far too much of this going on – A friend of mine had her car stolen on a low loader last week and only away from the motor for 20 mins.

Hope your insurance get you sorted very quickly we must not let the scumbags win.

Insurance have already said they’d total-loss it so looks like I’ll be paying for it out my own pocket.
Insurers are just as criminal if you ask me.

Makes you wonder why you pay insurance when they come up with statements like that, I would suggest you speak with the insurance ombudsman.

I hate the way insurance companies will just write of a perfectly fixable vehicle. They monopolise the whole system to their advantage

Ordinarily I would agree - but the car in question is almost 20 years old - parts are harder to source and thus expensive = write off.

Anyone know the size of bolts that hold the cat onto the manifold? Mine will need to be extractor socketed off so I won’t be able to reuse them. (Rounded off)

14mm I believe. You can order new nuts from Honda for a few £'s

Thanks! I’ll grab some from screwfix and replace with proper at a later date. I’ve got the day off to put the new cat and exhaust on and I can’t reuse anything under here… it’s entirely chewed up or just lumps of oxide 🙄

Me again… in a pinch, will it cause any long term headaches if I just bolt the cat to this rather than refit those spring things? I’m guessing they’re there to absorb some flex in the engine / exhaust system?

The bolts need the springs, as that's what create the compression on the clamp.

Righto, I’ll have to make something up for the short term (snapped one getting them out) and I need the car back on the road 😵‍💫

Use a different bolt for the time being, just make the springs are on it, pack it out with washers if need be. Just don't use a nylock thread nut, as the heat will just melt it in seconds (speaking from experience haha)

As the title really… after much fettling (and not really having the right tools) the replacement cat (previous was stolen) is on. I’ve definitely got a small leak at the manifold (reused old gasket) but now have a persistent P1157 fault code. Could an exhaust leak cause this?

Cheapo A/F mixture sensor?

Should have taken it to a garage?

My body is broken from laying on the frozen ground, but looking to resolve.

Cheap A/F sensor is my guess...unless you wired the new sensor incorrectly/loosely.

I truly feel your pain having to work on your back, in the cold.

I’ll get under it again and double check everything. It was getting dark and heading toward 0° by the time I stopped yesterday. Everything hurts today. I’m getting too old for this nonsense 😵‍💫

The P1157 is a DTC for the up stream O2 sensor readings.
It could be the sensor itself
Or it could be part of the wring is faulty

Then again, the cat and subsequent pipes and mufflers add to the back pressure
This can in turn affect the readings of the up stream O2 sensor
Would try to make sure everything is on right
Then tackle the DTC

Well, had the cat off, replaced the doughnut gasket with a new one, still have a leak there… MIL still on. P1157 persists. HOS02 “not ready”

Time to start checking the O2 sensor connections and voltages. Can you borrow a scan tool that would display the readings?

You never answered: what brand of sensor did you install? Did the thieves cut the sensor wires?
