I am wiring up a Homelink auto-dimming mirror. One of the terminals is for a reverse wire so the mirror stops dimming when the vehicle is in reverse. If possible, I would like to enable this feature. Anyone know where I can find a reverse wire to tap under the dash?

I have spent hours looking online, but every time I search for CRV and reverse wire, I find old posts from people adding backup cameras to their older CRV's.

Thanks!

You could try subscribing to service express to look at the wiring diagrams. I hooked into reverse, but at the rear of the car so no idea where it is at the front

This may be too easy, but the fuse for Back Up lights seems to be in the engine compartment fuse box. Fuse #18 per Page 139 of Owner's manual.

Thanks for the tips, I'll check the manual. I added the trailer hitch wiring earlier. I could also tap into this, but I would rather avoid stringing wire all over the vehicle.

I am using the mirror from the 2018+ Odyssey. This mirror has the extended mount to clear the shroud for the camera.

I also am using the attachment kit for the Accord from the link above. However, the wiring must be slightly different for the CRV vs Accord, because 12V is always present at the reverse wire, so the mirror doesn't dim. I could just clip the wire and the mirror would dim, but I would like to attach it to reverse if possible.

Doesn't your car come with a back-up camera?
I usually have the habit of checking the reverse camera then physically turning my neck around to peek out the back glass to make sure theres nothing behind me vs looking at the rear view mirror.

However if you still want a reverse line id look for a wiring diagram on the Touring models since those models come with the dimming mirrors..

I bought a used Gentrex mirror off ebay and plan to install it tomorrow but without tapping into the reverse signal.

Best of luck!

Correct, it does. I am trying to enable the feature in the mirror that cancels dimming when the vehicle is in reverse.

You will find that the Gentex mirror doesn't work with the shrouding around the camera. Your only option is to enlarge the hole for the mirror in the shroud.

A tip for removing the shroud:
First, remove the small plastic piece above the mirror. Then place your hand inside the shroud and gently push the driver's side of the shroud outward to release the two claws. The passenger side should be easy to remove once the other two claws are released.

man i like that Odyssey mirror! very minimalist design and sleek looking.
It just has homelink and dimming right? and you dont have to cut a hole in the camera cover as well?

Yes to both questions.
It has the extended windshield mount, so the first articulation point is outside the camera shroud.
I also own a 2018 Odyssey, so I tested the mirror on the CRV before ordering it.

I thought the harness for the Accord would work, but am having the issue mentioned above.
If I could do it again, I would order the attachment kit for the Odyssey for $2.59 instead of $37.20 (see link above).
This will give you a 12" pigtail, which is just enough to get inside the headliner. From there, just cut off the unneeded plug, extend the wires by soldering, and tap into the fuse box in the driver's foot well.

Reread the whole thread. Fuse #18 provides the reverse signal (optional) so the mirror doesn't dim when the vehicle is backing up. I don't know where you should tap to get a power signal to the mirror.

You could just do it the direct way if you are unable to locate the switch by the gear shifter.
By that I mean you could run a wire from the reverse light bulb harness right along under the corner of the roof molding and come out right by the mirror. This method is guaranteed to work but is going to take some effort.

Thanks.. well user Silverboy (in another thread) just tapped into the accessories bank, #1 fuse, 10 AMP.. that should supply the power i think.
So this is not a gentex mirror?

I was assuming the wiring was the same as for Gentex except for maybe the reverse dimming wire..

Here's a quick summary:
- I am using an OEM, homelink, dimming mirror from the 2018+ Odyssey
- This mirror might be the same as the Gentex frameless mirror, but I don't know for sure
- The problem with Gentex mirrors is they aren't compatible with the shroud for the LKAS camera
- To make things simple, I tried to use the harness for the Accord
- This harness in the CRV results in constant 12V to the reverse signal in the mirror, which means it doesn't dim.
- I am trying to find an (easy) way to get the correct reverse signal to the mirror so it doesn't dim when backing up
- Plan B is to simply cut the reverse wire to the mirror, which will enable dimming

I wouldn't recommend having ANY wires along the roof unless you remove the headliner and run it then put the headliner back in.

I say this because in the event of an accident the curtain airbags could have a possibility of not working correctly due to a wire blocking it from deploying the bags correctly AND or quickly enough to catch the occupants. It could also injure passengers with a copper sleeved wire hitting them in the face.

You should always run the wires by the door sills.

When installing the wire down the A pillar you should route the wire closest to the front windshield vs the door seal. If you remove the A pillar you can clearly see the side curtain airbag. Ive seen people ziptie their wire to the harness of this curtain airbag and after an accident the zipties become tiny plastic shrapnel.

this mirror looks just like the Gentex 50-genk80a model.. can find it cheaper than college hills.. BUT.. i dont know if the arm length is long enough.
local stereo shop can put it in for like $125.. may just bite the bullet and save myself the hassle and go that route.
I put in my HD tuner.. but that seems waay easier than this.. and was no wiring.

The big catch-22 with the Gentex is the distance from the mirror mount to the first articulation point. Good luck finding a side view of the mirror, I spent hours looking for one.

For installation instructions, click on the College Hill link above, then click on the "installation instructions" tab. The Accord instructions are about the same as the CRV.

Well if you guarantee the college hills mirror has the right arm length I will probably just go with that one..

Thanks!

So, circling this thread back to the original question: Does anyone know if these is a reverse wire to tap in the driver's footwell area???

Well if you guarantee the college hills mirror has the right arm length I will probably just go with that one..
I can guarantee that the 2018+ Odyssey mirror works without modifying the camera shroud. The mirror doesn't come with the mating plug, so order the pigtail for the Odyssey as well.

I ordered the Odyssey mirror with Odyssey plug.. Not sure yet if I am going to attempt install or bring to the stereo shop.
Will post some pics when i get it in.
Thanks again!
