To my opinion rust protection is not required on modern cars. The paint processes are vastly improved for both the parts you see and the underside you do not see. Keep things clean and goto a car wash that also cleans the underside and rust will not be an issue. Save your money for other toys for your CR-V!

Not sure if this is in the right section but wanted your opinions on rust proofing and which company from your experience provides the best protection and value.

I know of http://www.krown.com and http://www.rustcheck.com

How often should a vehicle be rust proofed?

Thanks in advance!
When I lived in Montreal, I Krowned my Elantra for 4 years straight. If you do it every year, they warranty against corrosion for 10 years or something. It was ~80-90 per application, well worth the peace of mind.

I stopped after moving to the Bay, but when I had the car up on a lift, the undercarriage was still pristine.

I dunno about honda's corrosion resistance as of late... my 09 CR-V had a spot inside the rear door that wasn't cleaned/primed correctly and left a 5 mm circular flake off, so paint workmanship isn't foolproof. And my old 83 civic and 89 civic didn't fare so well without rust protection.

Rust proofing

If you plan to keep your CRV for a long of time I would rust proof it once per year.
I used Krown in the past and it warped the rubber seals on my car.
Their product is oil based and attacks vigin rubber.
So for the CRV I've been using a product called Corrosion Free. I read about it on a thread from RFD. Check it out:

I think Canadian Tire uses this stuff.
I got mine done at an independent shop.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! With all the salt we get over the winter in Toronto, I am highly considering getting the vehicle rust proofed.

Has anyone had any experience with this company MotorWorX?

They currently have an offer over in RFD for under $100 to get your vehicle rust proofed.

I've read good reviews for Krown application, but it's not available here in Edmonton so I'm considering Rustcheck.

For those who had their V rust proofed, did the shop have to remove the underbody covers (even the wheel wells have them on the '12)? I can't imagine the application being done only on the exposed areas since most of the underbody is covered.
