Hello I put the Curtis hitch on my wife's crv a few years ago, never used it but it has surface rust and the powder coating is worn off where the safety chains attach. I am surprised it happened that fast hitch never even used and crv is always in garage. What would be the best paint to stop/prevent rust.

You could remove it, have it sandblasted to remove all rust and old finish, then powder coat it again, coat it with bed liner, or use something like KBS Rust Stop or Por 15.

Wire brush off the surface rust, mask off any areas you don't wanna get paint on, and use rustolieum spray paint. Used it for years on all sorts of undercarriage stuff and if the rust is removed before application it lasts for a long time...
