I doubt they do it anymore, but back in the day you could install a "test pipe" to help determine if your cat was failing. But I believe the modern computers have two sensors and expect to see a temperature difference between the inlet and exhaust of the CC, and will trigger if you attempt to bypass it. The reality is that it's probably not worth the effort as a properly working system is pretty efficient and I think it's unlikely you'll experience extraordinary performance gains.

However, you could always buy a VW - they come that way from the factory :p

Awesome

You could install an aftermarket programmable ECU and disable everything except what is needed for combustion. Namely Secondary O2 and evap. You could strait pipe out of the hood. It would be very loud and dirty.
