The starter in my 2007 CR-V needs to be replaced. The dealer quoted me a price of around $900. $523 for the part and $350 for labor (plus tax and misc. charges). Can anyone verify if this cost is accurate or not? They offered an after market part for about $150 less, but not worth it to me.

Find a private shop. Anyone can do it. The starter on our 08 went a couple years ago, dealer wanted around $700, private shop did it for around $400.

Dealer is always the most expensive and frequently gives low quality service as mechanics there are under loss of pressure to work fast-need to find a good independent repair shop, also starter is made by denso and is avail online for much less - honda uses many denso parts

I just had one done this week--yes, I paid a bit more at the dealer, but the private shops in this area are mostly hacks and will throw any remanufactured junk into a car to get you on your way. Don't trust a single one of them. I've had work done here before, so I get a discount, and he squeezed me in and had us on the road by the end of the day.

I may need to do another, once I find out what is wrong with mine (battery, charging system, etc....or starter).

At a dealership? It sounds a bit high. A brand new starter shouldn't be more than $200. Another $330 for labor! It is like a 2hr job tops.

Dealerships will rip you with labor charges -- 30 to 50% or more higher than certified independent shops. Most shops can get the OEM part and replace it for half the cost.

the $900 should be a fair price for dealership repair works.
unless you do not know a trusty mechanic or diy, dealership is the way to go.
i have replaced my honda 2007 element and civic 2008 starter and both are a pain to replaced.
i watch you tube planning to do preventive starter replacement on my 2007 crv, it seem easiers compared to the other two. i plan to buy the not so reliable chinese starter in amzn, at $80 the same ones i bought for my element and civic, and refurbish the original starter with new brush holder sets and ready just in case these chinese startes fail
