Can you confirm year / model? The Mk 3 starts 2006 and runs to 2011, IIRC. Therefore yours should be a Mk 3. I have just changed my rear struts on my 2009 Mk3 and there were no similar bars on mine. BUT, mine is UK and a 2.2 diesel manual.
