Regarding the oil leak, it is possible you have oil spill from the previous oil change(s). It is really hard to remove the oil filter without spilling some oil, which collects on the frame/cross member. Take a good look all around the engine (from the top and underneath the car) to try to find the source. I bought my 2004 and am learning not all issues are "common problems."

What about the timing chain? My 2004 CRV has 167k miles and I'm seriously considering replacing the chain as a preventive maintenance. It's a cheap repair (about $200 for the timing chain and tensioner). I figure the timing chain will eventually wear out, so why not change it before that happens?
