I thought the same thing until my last Chevy truck happened to come with it in one of the packages. I didn't even know it until I started it remotely one cold morning and jumped inside to a warm wheel. We got our new CRV last year and had the heated wheel installed. Both my wife and I have arthritis in our hands, and it feels really nice in colder weather.

I have the below problem with my hands. The heated steering wheel is a dream come true for me and many others.

Raynaud's Phenomenon is a process in which the fingers (and less commonly, the toes) turn different colors (white, blue, and red) in response to certain triggers such as cold or stress. It can be associated with discomfort or a “pins and needles” sensation.
