This afternoon I went to shut the tailgate on my '06 CRV and it bounced back with the lock stuck in the open position, not latching. I tried again and this time it was stuck in the closed position, and hasn't budged since. I have tried to manually move the lock and can't move it. I removed the inside rear panel and the latch assembly seems like everything is connected right when I pull on the outside handle but does nothing to this lock that is stuck. Wanted to see if I can try anything else before having to replace the whole assembly. Thanks in advance

Just to add, sometimes the catch (on the door frame) could come loose, especially if there was past accident damage, or it was adjusted to try and eliminate the Tailgate Door Ajar issue that Gen2 Vs have.

It could just be that you leaned on it and closed it. I have done that with door latches and hood latches. Have you tried opening it with the FOB or handle? You might have to pull with it with a screwdriver while trying to open it.
