My friend who's been going through my crv, was changing all the belts/torque mounts/ while I run back and forth to get parts, texted me to tell me. after changing the idler pulley ( which was toast) was still getting a weird noise in that area, he pulled the valve cover off, and there was a leaking cam seal-no surprise there, but the plastic near the back of the timing belt pulley, was warped and touching the (teeth) just under the timing belt...kink of like when a kid on a bicycle clips a card to rub the spokes and make his bike -sound like a motorcycle-.

I noticed this with mine when I did my timing belt. Belt had worth a groove/indent through the timing belt cover. Very likely it made noise between initially making contact (for whatever reason) and wearing the actual groove in. The previous owner had the TB done at the dealership as well so I can assume that they correctly installed the TB and it still made contact at that point.

My harmonic balancer wobbles in place when spinning. When looking straight down at it, it's not perfectly vertical- there's some left to right movement. I always assumed that in its range of motion the horizontal play that it has causes it to contact the timing belt cover. Unsure if this is due to a damaged crank pulley (#14) or a damaged or incorrectly installed timing belt guide (#13). I know the guide is directional and is very subtly concave. If put in backwards it may not give the belt the clearance needed off the cover?

Though you said you put everything back together since posting. Did you find a solution?

I recently replaced both inner and outer timing cover because of warpedness similar to the photo, while valve seat was bieng replaced, I couln't even put the cam pulleys back on without them rubbing, part # for upper inner..
