The link does not work outside NA, but I have seen the Three Pike + Snowflake symbol becoming the supposed divider between actual snow tires (severe snow service) and M+S rated summer tires (aka All Seasons) back in the day and slowly but surely becoming the new M+S without its original meaning.

If you live outside of a store area the blog will not load under the current site configuration. For those outside of a Discount Tire store area, try using zip code 43213 when following the link.

@mrtn there's a new emerging category commonly referred to as "all-weather" which meets both standards. That being said, tires are still a product of compromise, or in other words, no single tire can score 5 out 5 in all performance areas, so even though all weather tires carry the 3PMSF designation, dedicated winter tires are still the most reliable and safest options in cold, whiteout conditions.
