It depends on the model and engine design whether or not severe damage occurs during a timing chain failure. Did the engine seize up when it occurred? You could try calling another garage as another poster suggested but if your garage is telling you it's too expensive to fix, it probably is. Why don't you ask them for a ballpark estimate of what they think it will cost?
Timing Chain broken
i have the ultimate problem. My 2005 diesel CRV's timing chain has broken and the current garage I have put it with have refused to fix it. They say it is beyond economic repair, expensive strip down etc. Mileage is 125000 and it has been a very good runner. What do folk think?
