A lot of Honda transmissions have internal filters that can't be changed except during a rebuild.

If you can get access to the ATF filter without taking the tranny apart, change it.
There are aftermarket external transmission filters made for Honda automatics that can save a person headaches down the road.
They are very effective and I change out mine every thirty thousand miles.

the filter you are referring to is to protect the Trans cooler in the event of a catastrophic trans failure. It does not filter the fluid of anything caused by normal operation. Changing it is a waste of time and money and a chance to create a leake where there wasn't one before....why weaken the clamps and hoses?
That filter does in fact filter the transmission fluid and should be changed.
Your ATF fluid exits the transmission, thru the cooler then thru the filter before going back into your transmission.
That filter is not meant just for the cooler and should be changed along with your ATF every 30 to fifty thousand miles since it's a drain and fill application.
