ABS, VSA, VSA /!\ indicator

Hi!

I just bought a great 2009 CR-V EX-L w/Navi. It has 60,000 on it and runs great. This morning though the ABS, VSA, and /!\ lights came on (steady not flashing) and have been on since. The dealership I bought it from is saying it is because the gas cap wasn't tight enough, but it seems like I would have gotten a "check fuel cap" digital message for it. I won't really have the money to get it inspected at a dealership until September. Is anyone familiar with this error message? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. You are right , the gas cap light should come on if the gas cap is loose. I would suggest to check the abs ring on all 4 wheels. ABS, VSA is on bec. it has found an error in the system. Was anything done before this happened? Any other symptoms? Let me know.

If you JUST bought the car, the selling dealer should at least be willing to provide a diagnosis for no cost, IMO. Hopefully the indicators weren't reset just to get it off the lot.

I agree with you. The dealership might have reset the light just to get it off the lot.

Thanks

Thanks,

I bought it from a Lexus dealership. I'm talking with their service team now. No other symptoms whatsoever. I will update if anything changes.

More information

So this morning the lights weren't on. Then they came on for a bit and shut off again. Does this make you feel like it is more likely to be a bad/loose connection?

It sounds like it. Or it could be dirt on the actual sensor. Check the actual sensor for looseness & misalignment. Let me know.

Ok, sorry its taken me so long to update. The dealership ran the code and its a malfunctioning left rear wheel speed sensor. They are going to replace on Thursday and hopefully that will solve the problem.

Ok, I bought a Used 2009 CRV-EX/L w/Navi from a Lexus dealership. Its in good condition and has 62,000 miles on it. About a week or two after buying it the lights in the image that I think I've attached came on. They come on and go off on a regular basis, but usually come on after starting it and going through the gears. On occasion they will not come on at all. The Lexus dealership ran the code and it came back saying it was a left rear wheel speed sensor. They replaced it, the lights came back on. They sent it to Honda where they said it was a short in the system that led to the wheel speed sensor so, they replaced the wiring, then the lights came back on. So, now I will be bringing it back on Monday so they can take another look at it and hopefully fix this problem. Any ideas? More importantly, does this make anyone think I bought a lemon?

Kudos to the Lexus dealer for following through. We have to assume you are under a warranty.

If the wheel bearing in question was replaced by a shop that didn't know what they were doing, it might not be triggering the wheel sensor consistently. Do you have any repair history on the car?

I am, thank goodness. No repair history. They replaced the wheel speed sensor and the wiring leading to the sensor. Interestingly my wife pointed out that it never turns on for her and it didn't turn on for the repair techs. It was only when I got into the car that the lights turned on. So now we think it is my weight (I'm 215) that is triggering the short maybe?

That's a good Hubby. Take the blame. LOL!

It's possible (though unlikely IMO) that a loose or corroded connection exists in the wire right at the sensor plug. (Where the wire coming from the sensor wire itself actually plugs in) That's the only thing I can think of that would be different with extra weight in the car.

Could also be a connection 'upstream' from the wheel, too.

The Lexus dealer needs to consider what to do next, replace lots of parts or take the car back. If the latter, it's a shame.

That would be a shame for sure. I'm not sure how that would work. I'm hoping they can get it resolved soon. I guess I'll find out on Monday.

The warning light saga continues

UPDATE: Aug 15, 2015

In May I bought a 2009 CR-V EX-L with 60,200 miles on it from my local Lexus dealership. Car is in good condition, one owner, etc. Drove it for a week or two then had these three warning lights appear on the display. The lights appear intermittently, they don't appear when my wife drives, but do appear when I drive which has led us to believe that it has something to do with my weight. Also, each time they've "fixed" the problem the lights have been off at the dealership and have come on only when I get back in the car.

So, I returned to the dealership and, thankfully, was still under the 60 day warranty. First they ran the code and it came back saying it was a left rear wheel speed sensor. They replaced that the wheel speed sensor and the lights came back on as soon as I drove the car away from the dealership.

The next step was to send it to the local honda dealership where they found some frayed wires leading to the ABS module and replaced those. This "fixed" the problem, once again until I got back into the car.

Finally they sent it to the Honda specialist. It was there for a week while they diagnosed. They replaced the ABS module and a wheel bearing and brought it back "fixed". The lights came back on, once again, as soon as I got into the car.

Does anyone have ANY clue what this might be...its such a frustrating problem.

Ok, I've posted about this here before, but I am still trying to get the issue resolved so here we go again.

I'd have them put the car on a hoist that removes the weight from the wheels, then put a dead weight in the seat (sand bags?) that is equal to or greater than your 215lb weight. See if the lights come on then.
If not, you know the problem happens when the load is being felt by the suspension so you can look at all the unsprung to sprung wire connections etc.
What happens when/if you ride in the passenger seat?
Do they come on then?
