Some that know me would argue I made that journey long ago but I digress. I had money down on one that would have been built the end of January, delivery around late February. While I was getting my truck serviced I lucked upon one that was already "in transit" which is apparently a meaningless term. A little more than a week later I was told that she is on a truck. So I thought any day now. I was wrong, I was very wrong. When they say on a truck that isn't like Amazon where it is on its way to be delivered but literally on a truck. Waiting for a driver. No chips, no drivers, argh!! Apparently with the storm before Christmas any anecdotal data my dealer had as to how long this process takes went right out the window.

I offered to take a crash course on driving a semi, fly up to Ontario, and drive the truck back myself. For some inexplicable reason my dealer thought I was joking, so here I am. Has anyone taken delivery of their CRV that was in transit right after Christmas that could tell me how long it took from when it was on the truck to at the dealership?

Mine was in transit for about a week.
When was it in transit? Trying to figure out how much the storm messed up transportation.
Mine had a build date for Dec.3-7 and was delivered end of Dec.
This one is 12th through 16th. I really think the storm had something to do with it. I would imagine there was a window where no trucks made it out.

This was right before the storm on December 22nd. Like you, I had money on a car that was due to be delivered in February and this one was already in transit.
Mine was right after so that makes sense.

I feel like my coworkers are tired of my sulking around the office. I am driving my husband's Ridgeline so it isn't like I am suffering but I want my shiny new car!
Perhaps you need to contact the dealership that ordered the vehicle, they are in a better position to help you.
If I contact them any more I think they will block my number. They only know what Honda tells them which is at what part of the process the car is in. So they know what I know, it is on a truck.

sorry for your pain, I'm a truck driver and can tell you, much of the time: " on a truck, in transit" means, " it's just sitting somewhere. it'll be worth the wait to do the first road trip.
I can't wait to take it on the highway.
I hear ya. My current lease expires end of February, and I have a new Touring on order to replace it. It's SUPPOSED to be built this month and delivered sometime next month, but who knows with the way things are. I just paid $75 to have the lease extended for a few months just in case (I can then end the lease whenever the car arrives), so at least I don't have to worry about being "between cars." Still, even though it's a good six weeks before the turnover is scheduled, I'm already pretty antsy. Can't imagine how bad I'll be a month from now! ;)
I was in an accident November 5th and the car was totaled November 20th so I ordered my CRV. Thankfully my husband has a work van during the week so I use his Ridgeline. Still I want my CRV like yesterday.
If you have a VIN number and it is in shipment... just be patient. "on the truck" is simply a generic statement that it is on the way, as most of them are shipped by rail and only on a truck for the last local miles to the dealer.

Transit time varies, depending on the distance between you and the factory of origin, and also the factory. And Weather is certainly a factor right now will slow things down.

Example: June, Alliston Ontario as the assembly plant - to Northern California dealer, in good weather conditions takes about 10-14 days. Bad weather and all bets are off. When I looked up my 2017 transit manifest... it shipped first by ship to New York, then it went by rail to California, and then by truck to my dealership. This was when many trim/color options were in short supply, so even in 2017 we were buying CRVs that were allocated to the dealer, but not yet arrived. At that time the dealer would not take a deposit until they had the formal allocation (and a VIN for each vehicle). It's a bit different today, but the shipping methods and routes have not really changed from the factories.

and NO, you cannot go to Ontario and drive the vehicle or a truck on it's way to your dealer. 1) you are not licensed to do so. 2) it's an international shipment when it comes from Ontario to the US, so you have further requirements. 3) you don't own the vehicle yet, Honda does.

My suggestion: you have to pay the destination charges for the shipping and dealer prep on top of your MSRP anyway. Get your moneys worth and let the system do what it does.
Just want to make sure you understand I know I can't drive a semi, it was a joke.

Thank you for the rest of the information.

I just talked to the dealer and he said that Honda is saying all cars are delayed, to paraphrase, they don't have drivers to deliver them.
That sounds like BS. My car arrived at the dealer this week and I have been watching their inventory and they are getting new cars every week.
Where are you located? How long was it in transit?
Our large-ish local dealer went from two in stock 2 weeks ago, to four on sunday....and they still have another 4 hybrids on the way.
I know there was supposed to be several red ones hitting other dealers last week, those did not arrive either. Mostly I am going to be angry if they try to charge me the 2023 prices but I am pretty sure they can't since I signed with a specific vin number.

I am curious what others think. The first dealer I was going to had red sport touring being built the last week in December.
In the DFW area.
When I paid for the car in mid-December they had a VIN number but it wasn't showing up in their inventory so I assume it hadn't been produced yet. It showed up in their inventory about 2 weeks ago and arrived at the dealership last Monday. I have no idea exactly how long it was in transit from the factory.
Two weeks ago they showed 3 hybrids in inventory, today they show 7, 3 Sport, and 4 Sport Tourings so their inventory is increasing.
One of the things I learned back in May of 22 when I bought my HRV is what is shown as inventory generally isn't. Any car that comes in is put in the inventory even if it is already spoken for. Back in November when I first put money down at one dealership that was for a car that was allocated to that dealership but wouldn't be built until the end of January. The car I currently have a deposit on was already built at the end of December but they seem to be having transportation issues. They have had no other cars going through.

Some dealers keep the cars on their websites for a couple weeks to get people to call. I went through every dealership in St Louis and none of them have actual inventory right now.

Since you seem to understand the supply chain bit better than most I wanted to run this by you. I was told yesterday that my car is out there seeing America. It has been doing so for the past two weeks. The problem is "contractors are experiencing employment issues which effect the 1500+ Honda stores and other vehicles in circulation." Does this seem reasonable and what does that look like in practice? I did look at the other dealers and they have no sport tourings in stock as well. They are saying it won't be in for another 2 weeks. One month to get cars from Ontario to St Louis seems a bit much so I thought I would check with you.

Okay just talked to the dealer and apparently my poor car is sitting on a lot waiting to leave but Honda is guaranteeing it be here by February 10th.

So I shouldn’t tell you I walked into my dealer last week, purchased a CR-V ST Hybrid model that was “In Transit,” and left with it the next day because it had arrived overnight? 😁 My first CR-V too.
You live a bit closer to Ontario than I do here in the Midwest so I am okay.
There's progress on my end - In the past week the number of CR-Vs on my dealer's webpage has gone from 17 to 50 (the vast majority being EX-Ls), and now includes mine as a "Sold In-Transit"
Where are you located? Just the dealer I am working with has 12 cars he is waiting on. I wish they would put sold on mine but apparently they leave it as in to get people to call.
MN. One of the bigger Honda dealers now shows 77 gas and 27 hybrid vehicles either in-transit or pending sale which is significantly more than a few days ago as well. So something's happening finally.
That's good, hopefully it will spill over to my neck of the woods.
Ordered mine in October. On November 23rd I was told it was in transit. Received a call today, 1/18 that it arrived today and I am picking it up on Friday. Hope that helps. I ordered a Sport Touring.
Thank you, that makes me feel a lot better. So glad yours has arrived.
Looks like you may well have to fetch it yourself then!
Do you get your deposit back if they cannot deliver within a REASONABLE time and it's not your fault there are no drivers. What does the contract say. I'd be pissed.
It isn't hard to get the deposit back because there is a line for the cars. The only way I would back out is if it gets too close to may when my tax credit runs out. My car was totaled in November which is when I ordered the CRV. I think it was officially totaled on December 8th so around the first of June is when the 180 days runs out. I also have my Ridgeline so I don't have to worry about rentals unless my husband needs it on the weekends.

And ask for some kind of compensation ( a couple free oil changes or ???) for your inconvenience and aggravation! If you don't ask, the answer is No!
I already have six years of oil changes, discount on routine maintenance, and lifetime powertrain. I am just frustrated with the not knowing when it will arrive. They just told me by Feb 10th, I am good with that. I can stick it on my calendar.

I went in on 12/26 they had 3 but not what we wanted. One was in transit but no date. Salesman said it would show a date in 2 weeks and it did. Picked it up last Saturday. Ordered accessories separate and picked those up a few days ago.
That was the same date I switched to this car. The one I originally put a deposit on is being built next week. I just wonder if the issue is the region I live in. There are three dealerships that show no CRVs at all. The rest show no hybrids. I guess it could also be the plant they are made at, mine was in Canada. I have a solid contract, I have the vin number, it will come. Just hoping for sooner rather than later. All my accessories, sans the trailer hitch, are sitting in the dining room patiently waiting.

Apparently, Honda's truck is currently on a run from Texas to Seattle...
Don't be silly, they have two trucks.
