For reference (and yes, I've read through), here is another thread which is now closed:

I'll post here and hopefully start a useful thread.

It sounds like the most popular cell phone holders for the Gen 5 either stick onto something or fasten to the vents. I'm looking for something different. Has anyone tried this product? It's a little more expensive but I really like the idea of how it mounts to the side of the removable panel on the dash:

Here's a link to a Youtube video showing the installation:

My only thing is I'm not a big fan of the magnet mount. I imagine that means I need to attach a magnet to my phone? Do you think I could jerry-rig it to attach to a phone holder like this:

Thanks for any replies! I look forward to learning from the forum's collective knowledge and experience while staying safe and keeping law enforcement happy.

wife has a mag mount that has a back clip for the vent, but typically she just leaves it in the console. I on the other hand, like to the phone visible, especially when traveling in times of Android Auto flaking out. So I use a suction mount that is put on the windshield on the left side next to the pillar such that the phone is somewhat hidden by the pillar in my line of vision. I have it mounted as such on my '19 Subaru Crosstrek. I find it works very well.

There are also phone holders that have a cup fitting so they can just drop into an existing cup holder. I know Weathertech makes one and there are many others to choose from on Amazon these days.

I use a Weathertech Cup Phone holder to keep the phone from skittering around, a short cord to the USB port connects to Apple CarPlay so all the phone functions appear on the Infotainment display as well as charging.

Not helpful, I know, but I generally use my pocket. As has been mentioned, AA works just fine for me. IF I need to charge my phone, it just gets set in a cup holder or on the console...I find the wireless charger to be too slow.

As others have said, mine stays in my pocket. If I have to charge it, I just drop it in a cup holder or the space in front of them. With bluetooth and Android Auto I can't really see a need to have my phone out, unlike when I had my 2014 Civic. It's just a distraction.

Having said that, I used this in my Civic. I could just set it down in the cavity created by the speedo cluster while using Google Maps. Kept my eyes straight ahead where they belong.

Mine "free floats" above the center display in both our Civic and CR-V, otherwise it lays on our wireless charger in our CR-V. I'll have to get a picture of it sometime, above the center display. Only downside, it blocks the HAZARD LIGHTS switch.

I have an old RAM mount for a Garmin hand-held GPS that I used to take on long car trips before the iPhone days.

I jimmy-rigged it to clamp a modern cellphone holder, and it gets suctioned to the windshield for the odd times that I don't think the 5gen CarPlay is sufficient. The plastic suction cup is at least 12yrs old and still working...(y)

Anyone here who does deliveries in their CR-V? I have a glass screen protector on my infotainment display on on the left side since there is all that extra space, I had attached a magnetic mount for my phone. Today was a hot day unfortunately, the sticky 3m pad came undone. I had this same problem with the exact same setup in my 2019 CR-V on hot days so I really need a better solution. I can't have my phone in my pocket or laying down since I need to it accept orders in an app. I was hoping not to get a glass mount, I never liked those.

I have a nice vent mount that I use in my Accord but that same mount won't work in my CR-V due to the way the vents are placed behind the infotainment screen.

I don't use a mount either. Short USB cable plugged into the port in the storage compartment, with the phone plugged into that, then I close the compartment. As others have stated, no need to use the phone with the infotainment system.

I used to just plug my phone into the USB port and set the phone in a cup holder...but I often forgot to fetch my phone when I got out of the car. So I got a long USB cord and kept my phone in my pocket. This worked OK but the cord got tangled in the seat belt when I got out. Now, with this, my phone never leaves its holster and connects automatically when I get in the car. Do you notice any lag in sound while on the phone? That seems to be biggest complaint in the reviews

I also use a mag mount on my 2008. The mount friction fits to the vent, and the other magnet fits between my cell phone and it's case. Use this all the time when when running google maps from my phone.
