Honda really should have put a sticker there that says "this slot is supposed to be empty".

Similar to the Gen2:

Starting in ~2005, they put a sticker in the 'pull-out storage cubby' 😉 that said "NOT AN ASHTRAY". Covered it in something that looked like cloth but hopefully wasn't combustible. (I have not tested this myself)

Just brought home my '22 CR-V this week. Box confused me from the test drive. Also the slots for nothing. Thanks for the 2 years of analysis! I think I'll put my picnic blanket and a sweater in the hole. Here's the Owner's Manual info:
