I don't do much in the way of add-ons to my Hondas... but for my 2017 CRV... I finally decided to add a screen protector for the Head Unit.
NOT because I fear it will be damaged by use.. but because I hate the matte finish on the display screen. Hard to clean, subject to abrasion, gets washed out in bright sunlight, etc.
The long standing issue with screen protectors though is that most of them on the market are hard-glass, and while this type of screen protector is great for smart phones and tablets.. is sucks in the case of a vehicle as they simply do not do well in the cabin of a vehicle.. with the extreme swings in temperatures from very hot on a hot day to freezing cold in the winter. The glass screen protectors are prone to cracking, distorting, bubbling, etc when applied to a vehicle head unit display, so I passed on them long ago.
Solution ----> Photodon Screen Protectors.
https://www.photodon.com/p/2267-01.html I waited on this until I found a CRV owner who had one.. and the reported results were excellent.
They sell them with a range of their different versions of material and finish .. and since I wanted a nice glossy screen finish (like comes standard on the current generation Accords)... I went with the 9HO screen protector material. The 9HO costs a few bucks more then their matte finish.. but totally worth it for me. Great image quality, without nasty sunlight reflections on the screen, and it has glass like hardness and abrasion resistance and is incredibly easy to clean and does not seem to accumulate finger marks easily (which is an issue with the stock HU screen surface).
My HU screen now looks very similar to the one in my wifes Accord, and I am so happy to be rid of the matte screen finish.. which is completely hidden by the screen protector.
They have great instructions and kit for cleaning your screen and installing the protector, as well as a great demo video for their screen protector application on products as well. The CRV screen protector has a circular cutout for the volume control knob.. so no need to remove the knob.
Note: Phtodons are a flexible high tack yet removable material... and I found on a properly cleaned screen surface.. they apply with almost no bubbling at all, and the little squeegee they include in the kit cleaned up the few small bubbles really well.
Anyway.. anyone looking for a HU screen protector... I recommend giving Photodon a good consideration.
