I'm in the market for a gen2 CR-V and a dealer near me has two options
A: 2005 98k miles on it, asking for $6300.
B: 2003 131k miles on it, asking for $4000. This one has in a few accidents years ago. According to the carfax it was fixed and used for years afterwards.

Assuming my mechanic clears either vehicle in a PPI, which would you prefer for the money?

Thanks,
Dan

The 2005 has a few more standard features (like a more powerful engine, extra gear in the automatic trans, VSA (traction control), larger brakes and wheels.

The "Gen 2.5" is less prone to a/c compressor failure. But if the 2003 had this repair performed (properly) and you like the way it drives, it will be fine.

Both are due for 110K mile services (coolant, plugs, valve adjustments, etc) but if you are proactive about maintenance you will do all of that anyway, just to establish a baseline and assure a reliable car.

2005 is definitely the better option.

The 05 seems like the better deal. Definitely look to see if the AC compressor or system has been replaced on the 03 if you go that route.
