Not a big deal, just wondering why this strap is bolted to the car left of the prop shaft and doing nothing on my 2002.

<--- front of vehicle

Is it for holding the shaft during service or repair? Maybe while towing? Just curious.

I know some race cars have metal safety loops around the drive-shaft to keep them piercing the floorboards or flipping the car should the U-joint fail. The fact that the loop is off to the side is confusing, but my guess is that piece is just there to keep the shaft from flying around violently under the car and/or hitting the ground if the front U-joint fails. It seems like the drive-shaft might just fall onto a frame piece below and be boxed in by the exhaust and the “drive shaft protector”… just a guess.
