As vehicles become more and more sophisticated regards voltage needs, the life of batteries seems to have diminished. (Part of this is due to the ever-smaller batteries fitted to new cars of all makes. Less weight = better MPG.) There are several "better Bigger Battery" topics here)

Many owners of our mid-2000s minivan change their batteries every 5 years just as Good Practice. Gen5 owners often do it at three years.

But, if you are good about checking battery electrolyte, you can usually achieve longer life. If you are nervous, the Lithium jumper pack is good for peace-of-mind.

If you have a cheap VOM meter, you can get an idea of battery health by checking it periodically (after a night's 'rest', before starting)

Will the H5 fit in the 2017? Or just get a 51R?
I noted the size difference on the Interstate Battery site. They appear to be quite different sizes, especially HEIGHT.

H5:

51R:

Hopefully, someone with a 2017 and a 2020+ will post pictures to see how the two different batteries are mounted.
The difference in CCA is 40 CCA.

And YES, if you had been more diligent about checking the electrolyte in the battery, you certainly would have gotten more life out of the old battery. No other issues to worry about...the dash indicators will go out after the electronics re-initialize.

<SOAP BOX>

Warm weather weakens lead-acid batteries (the electrolyte evaporates, especially with the electrical demands of A/C with the radiator and interior fans running). Then, the weak batteries fail when the ambient temperature drops.

Is there any wonder that MANY battery topics have been posted recently? you only need to look at the maps of fall foliage to predict where the battery Topics will begin. :p :)

Some cars (no Honda that I know of) include a battery insulation “blanket “ around it in the engine bay.
