2019 CR-V: Can I fit a 4x4 sheet of plywood?

I've measured with a tape measure, and it looks like the opening is just a tad too small to slide in a 4x4 sheet of plywood. I'm curious if anyone has tried.

Thanks,

I thought this sounded familiar.

That's right THEY DON'T!

I bought a 4x8 sheet and had it cut down and I couldn't get it to fit. Fortunately I didn't need it as 4x4, so I did have it cut down to 3.25 x 4 x2 (and extra pieces too) and that worked.

But yeah, 4' boards don't fit in it. And with a renovation job on my docket, I am planning on getting a trailer soon.

Honestly, unless you do this often, just rent a truck for the day and haul all your renovation stuff home all in one big batch if you can. A U-haul truck would work fine, and frankly around here the Home Depots all rent trucks for this very purpose.

I am a proponent of not putting features with sunk costs into a vehicle if you will rarely make use of said features. A CRV is by no means good at towing much of any load [check your manual for load limits, total including passengers, tongue weight limits (which are low) and towing weight which is also low]. If you were hauling drywall sheets, you would max out really quickly.

Good luck with the reno project. :)

My relative could not get a 4' x 8' into his SUV. So, he put up roof rails on his vehicle.
The sheet of plywood or sheetrock goes on top of the rails and gets tied down with straps.
The only thing is that you can not drive at highway speeds as the wind tends to bend or break the boards.

Along these lines, I would also advise to be wary of what/how you're putting wood or other hard/stiff items in your car that do not easily break/crumble on impact. Having a long thick piece of plywood, even if it did fit in the CR-V, right up agains the back of your seat might nto be the best thing in a rear end accident, I'm with williamsj on this one....just rent a truck or Rblancarte on the trailer suggestion.
