2004 CR-V rear door warning light

So the rear door warning light stays on. Opened and closed the door and the glass a few times nothing is obstructing anything in any way shape or form. Where is the contact or how does the vehicle “know” the rear hatch is open/closed? OR, is this a common occurrence that eventually happens after a certain age on these vehicles? Any detailed information and insight would be highly appreciated!
TIA!

stickied post at top of Gen 2 forum shows where the switch is. Just looked. It’s in the body electrical section, chapter 22A page 157.

it is a common problem, the switch or door can get misaligned, or the switch can break. It’s one cause of the car not entering sleep mode and causing a parasitic draw that can drain your battery.

The easiest way to resolve this common issue is to fold over the the 'boot' on the switch actuator (left side of the door opening) to make it actuate earlier.

Another way to achieve this is to tuck a small washer into the boot to make it thicker.
