2014 - CR-V lx Oil consumption - Oil Brand?

Hi all, I know there is a number of oil consumption threads, and I had seen at one time some discussion of oil brands affecting the oil consumption. I cannot re-find the thread I had seen some of that on.

I have a 2014 lx awd, with 98K on it. bought it off lease with 36k. I live in Wis. so I see cold weather. I have a 43mile commute each way, all highway. I use mobile-1 extended life with the mobile-1 extended life filters as well. typically would do an oil change when the millage minder called for it. check my oil usually every other gas fill up. this last oil change interval i have put in at least 5 quarts over the entire millage. (0W-20)

My question is do others see a non-issue with the oil consumption with different brands? would switching to Casrol, Valvoline, Penzoil, Amzoil be a better alternative?
Been searching Bob-the-oil-guy as well.

thanks for any input or links to other threads.

First effort would be to remove and check your PCV valve. Shake it...if it doesn't rattle, clean it out with carb or intake cleaner. (No need to buy a new one.)

You might want to go to a slightly thicker oil. Try 5W-20 or even 5W-30 (even that weight should work well in Wisconsin, synth has good cold pouring properties). More info on BITOG than here!

Following the MM is fine, your usage is not severe, but JMHO a regular M1 oil would be just as good. I don't think that switching brands would make a significant difference, we use whatever synth is on sale/rebated, and have consistent oil usage over 185K miles.

I have been using recommended weight Castrol and Motul in all my cars for the past decade or so. No oil loss in the 2.0 N/A Honda or turbocharged direct-injected Ford within the MM period. Ford gets well over 10K miles between MM messages.

Five quarts of oil in the past 10,000 miles of less? There is a problem someplace. My 2014 doesn't use any oil in the 9,000 to 10,000 +- mile interval.

Our '09 RAV4 owner's manual says 1.1 quarts/600 miles is acceptable. As stated, changing brands of oil will do virtually nothing.

Honda does refine motor oil or make oil filters.
