The typical life cycle in a hot market segment of the automotive industry is 5 years, with a refresh in year 4. And that's exactly what we had for the Gen 4 CR-V. Introduced as all new for 2012, refreshed in 2015 (new engine, transmission, greatly improved headlights and restyled interior), retired at the end of 2016 and replaced for 2017.
It sounds like you didn't do a lot of homework before you bought the final year of the previous design. Then again, you spared yourself a lot of headaches that the early adopter had to live thru.
